Maury Student Earns Governor's School Placement
Lisa Trinh, a Maury junior, earned a spot in the Governor's School Spanish Academy Summer program. This is a highly competitive summer immersion program. Every high school in the state gets to nominate 2 students, and only 60 are selected to attend the academy and a few more are selected as alternates. Sophomore Amelia Dobbs was selected as an alternate for the Governor's French Academy.
The application process is intense, and the students have to take a difficult exam to be eligible.
Maury High School Earns Recognition as a Top American High School
Maury High School made Newsweek's and The Daily Beast's list of America's Best High Schools in terms of preparing students for college. Schools were invited to participate. The rankings took into consideration measures of college readiness, including graduation rates, participation in college-level classes via Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, and acceptance into a two- or four-year college program.
Algebra Tutorials
Teachers James Fox, Michele Michels, and Wes Price have worked to produce a collection of Algebra tutorial videos to help students review concepts for the SOL tests coming in May. These are great tools for parents who may want to help their children with homework, too. Visit the Algebra Remediation Page to view the whole collection.
Norfolk Teacher of the year Shawn Ellis is building a similar site for Geometry.
