Granby High School operates on an academy system where the student body and faculty are divided into four distinct groups. While the principal oversees the school as a whole and focuses on building-wide issues, an assistant principal administers each academy.

The Freshman Success Program (Academy A) was designed to facilitate a successful transition for students entering high school for the first time. Goals of the Freshman Success Program are:

  • 100% of freshman will meet promotion requirements for 10th grade
  • 100% of freshman will pass end-of-course SOLs for verified credit(s)
  • All freshman students will be involved in at least one club, activity, or sport at Granby High School
  • All freshman students will develop a positive relationship with at least one adult at Granby High School

Students entering 9th grade become Granby Comets . The freshman class will be divided into four distinct groups where they will share a core group of five teachers who will communicate and act in order to make sure that each student is successful. The four distinct teams that make up Academy A or the Freshman Success Academy are: Enterprise, Challenger, Endeavour, and Discovery.

Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors at Granby are split between Academies B, C, or D. These students will share six counselors, two counselors in each of the three upperclassman academies. Counselors are assigned students alphabetically within their respective academies. Students remain with the same counselor throughout their sophomore, junior, and senior years, providing an opportunity for continuity and the opportunity to develop closer student / counselor relationships.

The academy design has resulted in a more personalized approach by assigning students to the same guidance counselor for at least the last three years of their high school careers, by facilitating a more direct contact between parents and the school, and through closer attention to students' success. Granby High operates under the alternating day (A/B) block schedule, which results in fewer but longer daily classes and also contributes to a more personalized teaching and learning environment

Granby High School focuses on a Community Service project for each Academy and provides many opportunities for every Comet to participate in an extracurricular activity. Be sure to use your Academy as your primary contact.
